Clean Earth Electroplating Solutions
All Clean Earth™ plating solutions are cyanide free. They are ecologically safer than standard plating
solutions yet plate uniformly and produce a hard, durable finish. The solutions are easy to use and
produce rich colors.

Copper Mirror
Produces a bright copper finish. Air bubble agitation produces superior uniformity and shine. Use with
a pure copper anode. Plate with solution at room temperature at 2 to 3 volts for 2 to 10 minutes.
Electroform at 1 to 1.3 volts for 30 minutes to 5 hours.

Copper Primer
Used as a pre-plate to cover difficult to plate metals such as tin, lead, and zinc die-casted metals. An

Cleaning and Stripping Solutions/Powder

Krohn Tivaclean is an electrocleaning concentrate for both metals and plastics.  Tivaclean is an orange powder that, when mixed with water, ( 8 oz. to the gallon ) changes to a fluorescent green to insure full rinsing.  Tivaclean also contains anti-foaming agents for low sudsing and a deodorant to suppress odor.
A bio-catalyst is also present for biodegradability and eliminates the need to use toxic chlorinated solvents.  In solution, Tivaclean has a non-caustic Ph of 9-10.
Tivaclean is also a great ultrasonic cleaner.  Tivaclean can be used at room temperature, however, heating the solution to a temperature between 160° and 180°F enhances its performance.

Krohn Tivabrite is an electrostripper and polisher for yellow gold.  In most cases, it can replace “bombing”, in a hydrogen peroxide / cyanide solution, with better results.  Tivabrite gets into spots, crevices, and undercuts that are impossible to reach with a polishing buff.
Tivabrite is a unique combination of chemicals that, when mixed ( 4 oz. to the gallon ) with water and an equal amount of cyanide (sodium cyanide is preferred) and utilized with a reverse current, will provide a superior polishing action.  Leaving yellow gold jewelry bright, clean and polished.  When used on white gold, Tivabrite gives the jewelry a matte finish similar to that obtained in “bombing”.

Anodes

Which Anode Should You Use ?
It is generally recommended the following anodes be used:

Regardless of this and whatever else you read, a stainless steel anode can be used in lieu of the above, including as an economical substitute for rhodium plating. Do not use the same stainless steel anode for different plating baths - even small amounts of contamination can ruin your plating results, particularly rhodium.

The use of a fine gold anode for gold plating will extend the life of your gold solution because gold molecules from the anode will re-charge the solution during the plating operation. We have yet to see an objective quantification of how long the plating solutions are extended. The same principle applies for a fine silver anode with a silver plating solution, etc.

Anodes
The metal portion of these anodes measures 1/2"  x 2" in varying thickness. Attached to a stainless steel stem which can be bent to hand onto the edge of a beaker.

What is Electroforming ?

Electroforming is very similar to electroplating. See our Electroplating Guide and Download Vigor Plating Guide. Electroforming is the disposition of metal on a non-metallic surface. In plating, we deposit a very thin layer on the metal. In electroforming, we can grow the metal as thick as we want.

The big difference between the two, is that in plating the deposited metal becomes part of the piece. In electroforming, we can remove the part that we deposit from the matrix and still have the deposit intact (e.g. ring wax).  In industry, electroforming is used when a limited number of parts have to be made, but not enough to warrant the cost of making a mold. The great thing about electroforming is that we can make money from many of nature's things (which are free!), such as sea shells, pine cones, leaves, butterflies, baby shoes, and even parsley.
