Precious Metal Clay
PMC Logo
Though rare, it is possible for certain individuals to experience skin rash or itchiness after contact with PMC. If you have a reaction, discontinue use. Consult a physician if the problem persists. Wash hands after use.
PMC is nontoxic and conforms to ASTM D-4236

Using PMC
Precious Metal Clay is a combination of water, binders, and small particles of either silver, gold or platinum. It is molded into a desired shape then heated in a kiln to remove the binder and fuse the metal powder into a solid form. The result retains all the marks of the maker, transformed into a precious and durable object.

Handling
Keep the PMC tightly wrapped until ready to use. For long term storage, seal it in a plastic bag with a dampened tissue. Apply a thin layer of olive oil to hands and tools before working. Avoid drafts and lamps that will dry the clay as you work. Tools for shaping PMC include ceramic tools, rubber stamps, cookie cutters, and many household items like
pens, playing cards, toothpicks, combs. etc.

Use water to seal joints and smooth surfaces, but be careful not to add too much. Refresh PMC at the end of a work session by adding a few drops of water and rewrapping in plastic film. Small scraps can be moistened and saved as paste. Dry the work, either at room temperature or with the heat of a lamp or hair dryer.

Firing
PMC can be fired in any kiln that will hold the correct temperature for the required time. A small programmable kiln is ideal. Set the work on ceramic bisque tiles, soft brick, or soldering pads. Irregular shapes should be supported on alumina hydrate or vermiculite - avoid breathing any fine dust. Inexpensive disposable saggers can be improvised from terra cotta flowerpots and saucers. After firing, PMC can be quenched or allowed to air cool. Do not quench work that contains non-metal implants like gems or glass.

Pure Silver Precious Metal Clays   ( PMC and PMC+ )

Original PMC is available in 1/2 oz and 1 oz lump packages. PMC+ (the newer formula that shrinks less and provides a stronger molecular bond) is available in 28 g lump packages, in slip form for decorating and repairing, and in new paper form. PMC+ fires at a lower temperature than PMC, allowing you to combine sterling findings with PMC before firing.

New PMC+ paper is a new style of this versatile material. Fold, form, onlay, weave or decorate with this thin, flexible sheet. It has a uniform thickness of 0.010" (30 ga) for easy workability - it is approximately 0.009" thick after firing.

Add detail to your PMC designs with PMC+ slip.  It is easily extruded for decorating small areas and for repairing PMC pieces. PMC+ slip contains the same ingredients as its lump form and paper counterparts, but it's formulated to ensure a smooth consistency for extruding.

Paragon Kilns
The digital SC-series kilns fire silver clay, decals, china paint, enameling and glass in minutes up to 2000°F.  The SC-series door opens 180 degrees for easy loading.  They are surprisingly affordable for digital kilns.  They fire automatically at the rate and temperature you enter.  A large brightly lit display prompts for firing rate, temperature and hold time.  Use the hold feature to automatically soak any type of clay silver or gold to its recommended time.
The high-tech energy efficient ceramic fiber firing chamber is wrapped in a steel inner case.  The outer steel case remains cool due to the layer of air between it and the inner case.  In addition, the case is slotted for air circulation.  Electrical components, located in the base, stay cool for long life even at extended hold times.  This is one reason the SC-series kilns are so trouble free.  The long life of a Paragon SC-series kiln is legendary.
The fast firing element is embedded in the firing chamber shell.  The SC-2 and SC-3 heat from the two sides and back.  Both kilns include a top vent for lost wax casting, complete with a tapered plug.  Each SC-series kiln includes a 1/4" thick ceramic fiber shelf.
